The recall has been issued by Teva Canada for one lot each of Pharmasave Advanced Relief Eye Drops and Compliments Advanced Relief Eye Drops due to a packaging error. Some of the bottles in the affected lots may contain ingredients not listed on the bottle and may pose health risks to those allergic to the ingredient.

Cartons of the affected eye drops are labelled with lot number AR21C03. The bottles may be labelled with either lot number AR21C03 or RL21D01.

The recall follows a complaint involving the Pharmasave eye drops. After receiving the complaint, Teva identified some of the bottles in the lots may have been packaged with another eye-drop product that has different active ingredients. Glycerine 0.25% and naphazoline HCl 0.012% were present in bottles that were labelled to contain Dextran 70 0.1%, Povidone 1%, Polyethylene glycol 400 1% and Tetrahyrdozoline hydrochloride 0.05%.

Naphazoline HCl or glycerine may cause reactions in individuals allergic to the ingredients. The signs of this include rash, itching or swelling, especially of the face, tongue and throat.

Health Canada is monitoring the company’s recall.
