Instagram Follows Apple's Lead By Teasing Custom Stickers - The Messenger

Instagram is experimenting with a new sticker experience that will cut out the subject of a personal photo, erase the background, and create a sticker from the photo. The custom sticker can then be layered on top of Reels and Stories.

Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri demonstrated the new stickers in a video on his broadcast channel. The stickers aren’t just limited to photos saved to a user’s phone; they can also be created from eligible images posted to Instagram. While Mosseri didn’t elaborate on the specifics of how sharing would happen, it could mean that custom stickers could also be made from others' images (presumably with permission).  Double Layer Label Sticker

Instagram’s photo-to-stickers test is still in its early stages, and not yet broadly available. But Apple already rolled out a parallel feature in September with iOS 17. The iPhone update took photo cutouts and turned them into stickers that users could send through iMessage. It even applied that same principle to short videos, which can now become animated stickers.

In Mould Label Factory Meta, Instagram’s parent company, unveiled its first AI image generator in September, which can quickly generate unique stickers, although some users have managed to get some questionable results.
