We have often heard and read that actors sometimes go through intense training to get into the skin of the character of their on-screen role. In the case of Killers of the Flower Moon, Martin Scorsese’s latest film, cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto told Insider that Leonardo DiCaprio had to wear butt padding for one scene that involved Robert DeNiro’s character to spank Leo.
In the interview, Prieto recalled watching that scene on the set and thinking, “Oh, that must hurt.” He then praised Leonardo DiCaprio for being open to trying anything Scorsese asked him to during production. “I don’t think that was in the first script. That was something that was added, and it’s shocking in the film,” he said.
“I do remember doing them quite a few times and thinking, ‘Oh, that must hurt,'” Prieto added. “There was some padding on his butt. But you could tell De Niro was really hitting him…Leo is game for so much. He’ll do anything.”
Rodrigo Prieto is considered to be an Oscar contender for best cinematography not only for his work on Killers of the Flower Moon but also for Barbie. He worked on both the films, one after another. Killers of the Flower Moon is currently running in theatres.
